Larry Gillham Said: Nikon 18-55 VR ( Oct. 29th 2009 )
Overall this is a nice lens. The only problem I've noticed is that it has a hard time with auto focus when used over water. An example would be an island in a lake. I have to compose with the island at the very bottom of the frame for the autofocus to stop cycling.
Aimee Starr Said: Great zoom for the price! ( Oct. 27th 2009 )
No complaints on this one! Sharp photos, good contrast, VR visually better than without, nice range for a mid to wide zoom! I would keep it if I weren't upgrading to a full frame body, D700. Even on full frame, the qualities above are the same, but you get a vignette when not cropping. Although, I like to use the vignette as a creative tool!
Traveler Said: When you need something lightweight and small ( Oct. 16th 2009 )
This is the lightest and smallest lens I own and it serves a very specific purpose. It stays on my backup DSLR, a Nikon D40x, which I keep in my car and take with me on hiking trips when weight is an issue or when I don't want to risk damaging my D90. I recently took this lens out on the streets of Boston at night to take several shots without a flash and no tripod. The lens functioned rather well and the VR was just about perfect. I definitely recommend the VR over the non-VR version of this lens. The little extra cost is worth it. I've been amazed at how often I don't need a tripod with all my VR lenses. My only complaint is the zoom range - would have liked something a little bit stronger. However, maybe that would have just made it bigger and more cumbersome. For my uses, this lens has worked just fine. I don't recommend it as a primary lens for anyone, but if you need something for situations such as mine then it's a good solid choice.

I purchased this for my mom and she has been thoroughly pleased with this lens.
coffeecat Said: Great for the price; more durable than you might expect ( Sep. 7th 2009 )
As the kit lens for my D60, it's nice to have VR. This lens takes acceptably sharp images, and is lightweight. It also survived a pretty nasty fall. Overall, for the money, it's hard to find a better lens.
